To their credit, the ways in which the band didn't get the British Invasion feel quite right were their saving grace. By adding a slightly more garagey sound, thanks to Sylvester Stewart's rough-edged production, and a strong folk influence in Elliott and Valentino's jangly 12-string guitars, the band created the blueprint for west coast rock in the Nuggets era.
