Picking up where Really Big Pinecone left off, Buishas exhibits a mastery of a wide range of instruments: pump organ, cello, piano, flugelhorn, glockenspiel, flute, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, synth and — in his words — “thunder, crumpled paper, walnuts and wood chips in a cup.” Recorded on a “eternally broken reel-to-reel,” the analog warmth in this record echoes the heartfelt lyrics that revel in intimacy. Minimal and infectious, Buishas has created a record that embraces heartache and songwriting in a way that is experimental and ambitious, resulting in a record unlike anything you’ve heard.
