Description

The London Jazz Scene is growing in stature, attracting an increasing amount of world class musicians from Europe and the US, and Andre Canniere is the next in line of the many ex-pat musicians who have decided to call London home. Canniere's music is typified by a keen knowledge of the trends in contemporary jazz and displays his powerful but melodic approach to improvising. On 'Forward Space', his debut release for Whirlwind Recordings, Canniere presents a program of highly original music (in fact he may arguably be one of the most gifted composers of his generation) as well as memorable themes that often cross the traditional boundaries of genre, infusing an ear pleasing mix of jazz and classical styles while drawing inspiration from folk, rock and pop music. The Andre Canniere Group features the leader on trumpet and some of the best up-and-coming UK-based jazz stars rounding out the eclectic ensemble: George Fogel on Piano, Hannes Riepler on guitar, Ryan Trebilcock on double bass and Jon Scott on drums. Canniere, who relocated from New York to London in 2008 had his first solo recording released in 2006 on Omatic Records to worldwide critical acclaim, and was noted for his compositional talents of striking originality. Personnel: Andre Canniere (trumpet, flugelhorn, melodica, Rhodes piano, guitar, cahon), Hannes Riepler (guitar), George Fogel (piano, keyboards), Ryan Trebilcock (double bass), Jon Scott, Chris Vatalaro (drums)
