Neo-soul singer Goapele's sophomore release builds on the smooth, hip-hop influenced flavor of her debut, EVEN CLOSER, but bumps things up a notch with a stronger batch of songs and top-tier production. Most of the album traffics in the sultry, mid-to-downtempo atmosphere of contemporary R&B, with Goapele's elastic, appealing voice leading the way. What makes CHANGE IT ALL especially distinctive, though, is its commitment to social awareness and change. Songs such as the title track and "Find A Way" (a song about voting) mix in with more traditional romantic fare, making CHANGE IT ALL an intriguing, provocative listen.
