Terminal Affirmative (2014) pounds out maximalist speed metal shredding for violin & double-pedal bass drum; Apophenia III: The Index (2016) uses the experimental fiction of J. G. Ballard (with violin, prepared piano, & two-handed tapping on electric guitar playes through a talk box); Apophenia IV: A Bell In Every Finger (2018) uses the late Steve Dalachinsky’s poetry about avant-garde pianists/composers Cecil Taylor & Muhal Richard Abrams to generate another fragmented narrative. How To Talk To Your Children About Not Looking At The Eclipse (2018) blends avant-jazz phrasing with a plethora of extended techniques for solo flute, while Fanfares For Modest Accomplishments (2014) revels in restraint and focused energy. With star appearances by pianists Kathleen Supové & Joseph Kubera, the violin duo String Noise (Violent Femmes’s Gordon Gano, Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier), Thomas Buckner (Roscoe Mitchell, Robert Ashley), & William Winant (Mr Bungle, John Zorn), the album pits rare talents of diverse artists against each other.
