Description

Pianist Åke Johansson was one of the country's finest jazz musicians, a much-loved accompanist when American musicians visited Europe; Dexter Gordon and James Moody were a couple of them. Here he plays with his fine trio at the Gothenburg jazz club Nefertiti in 1983, with Kjell Jansson, bass, and Göran Levin, drums. The majority has previously been released on LP, two new tracks have been added. It is a mixture of own originals and The Great American Songbook. There is also music by Kjell Jansson, who for decades has written high-class music for the joy of himself and others. Here is, for example, his beautiful waltz In the cave. Åke Johansson plays inspired and enthusiastically, with a head full of both ideas and reference material from jazz history.
