DESCRIPTION
Claude COLOMBINI FRÉMEAUX Emir Abd el-Kader remains one of the towering figures of modern history. This book retraces the defining moments of his remarkable life: his resistance to the French invasion, his political commitment, and his pivotal role in the struggle against colonial rule. A visionary military leader and an exceptional statesman, he earned the respect of both his followers and his adversaries through his profound learning, nobility of character, and boldness of thought. A scholar and a man of deep faith, Abd el-Kader placed spirituality at the heart of both his thinking and his actions. Exiled to Damascus after his imprisonment, he won international acclaim in 1860 for rescuing thousands of Christians threatened with massacre, an act that established him as an enduring symbol of interfaith dialogue. In this book, Karima Berger highlights this essential inner dimension of a man whose deepest wish was to devote himself entirely to the spiritual quest. From Algeria to France and finally to Damascus, the Emir's extraordinary journey continues to illuminate our own time through the depth, universality, and enduring relevance of his legacy. 3 CD audiobook, in French.
