Originally released in 1973 on Muse Records, Sunset to Dawn marked Kenny Barron's stunning debut as a bandleader. Already a well-respected sideman with stints alongside Dizzy Gillespie and Yusef Lateef, Barron steps into the spotlight with an album that's both soulful and forward-looking, blending post-bop virtuosity with spiritual searching. The album unfolds like a journey - lyrical, bold, and emotionally resonant. The presence of Carlos Garnett adds fire and edge, while Buster Williams and Freddie Waits lay down a groove that's both loose and grounded. Featuring an all-star lineup including Carlos Garnett (tenor sax), Buster Williams (bass), and Freddie Waits (drums), this record has remained out of print for decades, and now receives the premium treatment.


Vinyl re-release in October 2025 has sold out of 2,500 manufactured. Remastered directly from the original analog tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab. Packaged in a 4-panel digipak with 8-page booklet with newly written liner notes by Ted Panken and Barney Fields with a rare photograph by Raymond Ross.
