On their 2006 debut for the Columbia label, Men of Standard, formerly a quartet, streamlined down to the trio of Isaac Carree, Bryan Pierce, and Lowell Pye. Clearly these changes suit the gospel group well, as SURROUNDED is an assured set of faith-based, R&B-influenced songs that expertly showcases the threesome's stirring vocal harmonies (see the beat-driven "Power" and the gentle title track). Capping off the album is "Latter Rain," a smooth number that features Kirk Franklin, and embodies the ensemble's appealing contemporary gospel sound.
