We’ve mixed Deep Soul collector faves from Johnny Dynamite, Genie Brooks and Doris Allen with lesser-heard gems from the likes of Leroy Lloyd and the Dukes (who shared personnel with James Brown), The Double Soul, and Candy & Billy. The latter, for years rumored as early Candi Staton, has since been fessed-up in interview by the soul queen herself. Tremendous in-house songwriting and a fabulously fun history of the Florida-based label make this a must for fans of pure, undiluted southern soul music.
